Stated Purpose
"to conserve polar bears and the sea ice they depend on and to inspire people to care about the Arctic, the threats to its future, and the connection between this remote region and our global climate."
Polar Bears International (PBI) reports that it works through media, science, and advocacy to ensure polar bears remain a part of the Arctic forever. The organization states that it works to serve as the global resource for information regarding polar bears and their habitat, be a voice on how climate warming impacts polar bears and their Arctic home, and pro-actively share scientific research and communicate science-based information on polar bears and their conservation. In 2016, PBI reports that it created custom-built remote cameras for the first year of its Maternal Den Study in Svalbard, Norway and launched a Traditional Ecological Knowledge Study in northern Alaska. In addition, the organization states that it sponsored the Human-Polar Bear Conflict Workshop and worked to produce a Polar Bear Conservation Management Plant with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Polar Bear Recovery Team.
