National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) reports that it works to build better lives for Americans affected by mental illness through advocacy, awareness, education, and support. The organization's education programs works to get families, individuals, and educators the support and information they need. NAMI's advocacy program works to shape national public policy for people with mental illness and their families and provides volunteer leaders with the tools, resources and skills necessary to address mental health in all states. The organization's toll-free National HelpLine allows NAMI to respond to requests and provide free information and support. NAMI also leads public awareness events and activities, including Mental Illness Awareness Week and NAMIWalks, to fight stigma and encourage understanding. In 2018, NAMI reports that the organization's National Helpline received 31,000 calls and NAMI's website had more than 7 million web visits.
