Stated Purpose
"to lead the fight to overcome the challenges of living with epilepsy and to accelerate therapies to stop seizures, find cures, and save lives."
The Epilepsy Foundation develops nationwide programs available through its network of local epilepsy foundations, partner organizations, and its digital platforms and epilepsy.com. These programs and initiatives focus on engaging parents, children and adults in improving their quality of life and overall wellness. The programs are designed to be culturally and ethnically diverse. Through public policy, legal advocacy and grassroots engagement at the state and federal levels, the organization raises awareness about epilepsy and the issues affecting the epilepsy community and seeks positive change. The Epilepsy Foundation creates awareness through national media outreach utilizing traditional and digital channels including epilepsy.com and social media. The organization educates and provides training certifications on seizure recognition and first aid to nurses, school staff, first responders, and the community at large. The Epilepsy Foundation also funds research for new therapies, accelerating development of therapies, prevention, and cures for all forms of the epilepsies and addresses gaps in the research and commercialization continuum. Other initiatives include research to eradicate sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP), analysis of data from patient registries for common and rare forms of epilepsy in the Human Epilepsy Project and the Rare Epilepsy Network, and support for research grant and fellowship applications. Some ($1,010,155 or 5%) of Epilepsy Foundation's programs are conducted in conjunction with informational materials that include fundraising appeals.
