Cure Alzheimer’s Fund (CAF) provides funds to scientists throughout the world investigating the causes of Alzheimer’s disease. Discoveries include the role of genetics through the Alzheimer’s Genome Project; the positive and negative effects of lifestyle factors including exercise, diet, sleep, and air pollution; new tools that assist with evaluating potential use in treating Alzheimer’s disease with existing approved drugs; investigation into the role of beta-amyloid; and potential diagnostic measurement tools. CAF also operates larger-scale investigations within specific areas of the science. Its consortia model provides for initiatives with funding ranging from $2 million - $7 million and an expanded level of collaboration among scientists from various research institutions. This model includes Alzheimer’s Disease Drug Discovery and Development (AD4) Consortium; Fleming APOE Consortium; Brain Entry & Exit Consortium; Collaboration to Infer Regulatory Circuits and to Uncover Innovative Therapeutic Strategies (CIRCUITS) Consortium; Neuroinflammation Consortium; and Tau Consortium.
