Stated Purpose
"to discover treatments and a cure for ALS, and to serve, advocate for, and empower people affected by ALS to live their lives to the fullest."
ALS Association MN/ND/SD Chapter (ALS MN/ND/SD) reports that it serves individuals living with ALS, their family members, and caregivers. Programs offered by the organization include the Durable Medical Equipment Loan Pool and the Home Safety program that works to ensure individuals safely age in place. The organization also offers the Hrbek-Sing Communication and Assistive Device program that provides augmentative communication devices and smart home technology to ensure that individuals can continue to communicate and interact with their environments.The organization operates the Jack Norton Family Respite program that helps caregivers by placing home care professionals in the home, allowing caregivers to complete obligations outside the home. In addition, ALS MN/ND/SD offers support groups and consultation services to its clients, their caregivers, and family members. In 2019, the organization states that it provided 8,874 respite hours for 105 families, loaned 3,079 pieces of equipment to 445 individuals, and distributed 1,499 pieces of communication and assistive device equipment to 344 individuals.
