Stated Purpose
"to make the environment more accessible, relatable, relevant, and connected to the daily lives of all Americans."
The National Environmental Education and Training Foundation (NEEF) works in three areas: conservation, K-12 education, and health and wellness. The organization reports that its conservation programs and initiatives encourage people to get outside, helping them conserve and restore nature while enjoying it at the same time. Every September, NEEF holds their annual National Public Lands Day event that engages volunteers in service at public land sites across the nation. The organization?s K-12 program works to create an environmentally conscious and responsible public through environmental education programs and initiatives. NEEF's health and wellness programs (Pediatric Asthma, Nature Champions, and SunWise) provide resources and training for health care providers so that they may utilize the environment to improve patient outcomes. In addition to its three program areas, the organization also offers grants and awards to help local organizations engage their community to improve the environment, increase diversity, and expand their work locally. In 2018, NEEF reports that it had over 100,000 individuals volunteer on National Public Lands Day, trained 962 health professionals on the Environmental Management of Pediatric Asthma Guidelines for Healthcare Providers, and expanded its place-based education network, Hands on the Land, to include 24 newly registered education partnerships across five federal agencies.
