- The organization has not completed an effectiveness assessment in the last two years.
Standard 14 (Budget)
Have a board-approved annual budget for its current fiscal year, outlining projected expenses for major program activities, fund raising, and administration.
CASPCA does not meet this Standard because, when the organization provided 2020 budget information, it indicated that the budget:
- Did not identify total projected administrative expenses.
Standard 16 (Annual Report)
Have an annual report available to all, on request, that includes: (a) the organization's mission statement, (b) a summary of the past year's program service accomplishments, (c) a roster of the officers and members of the board of directors, (d) financial information that includes (i) total income in the past fiscal year, (ii) expenses in the same program, fund raising and administrative categories as in the financial statements, and (iii) ending net assets.
CASPCA does not meet this Standard because the 2018 annual report did not include:

Stated Purpose
"to advance the compassionate treatment of animals by providing sheltering, medical care, and behavioral services for dogs and cats; to promote permanent, caring homes; and to further education and outreach."
Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA (CASPCA) reports that it is an animal welfare organization providing contractual pound services to the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County. The organization offers veterinary care for the local community and provides low-cost spay and neuter services. CASPCA also works to educate the community on humane animal care through youth camps, community outreach, dog obedience classes, Compassionate Care Clinics, and educational tours. In 2019, the organization states that it cared for more than 4,100 animals, with 3,336 of those animals finding new homes, and 570 lost animals were reunited with their owners. In addition, CASPCA reports that it served 301,725 meals to shelter animals, performed nearly 6,500 surgeries, and michrochipped 3,653 animals.
